"Tell me who you are and I'll tell you who I am" Unit 5

Topics of conversation may be limited depending on your level of comfort and trust towards another individual. Self-disclosure is the the process of disclosing in other words, revealing information about yourself to another person. Personal boundaries are important, but building bonds with those around you is as well. For example, when you are having a conversation with someone whom you just met you may not feel the comfort of speaking to them in the way you would speak to your best friend. Although, a person may know things about you like the color of your hair color, your name, your birthday, your gender, etc. these things can easily be said and known by simply looking or asking someone. On the other hand, when you reveal things such as, your fears, favorite type of food, etc. you are performing self-disclosure. Disclosing yourself to another person really only has two sides to it, either you reveal simple things about yourself or you go all out and private. Furthermore, the more one discloses about themselves to one another, the deeper the type of relationship you have with this individual. Unfortunately, not every relationship is perfect and communication can often be one-sided creating false expectations.
